Begonia Maculata - Polka dot Begonia
This Begonia likes bright indirect light, and will not fare well in low indirect light.
Choose the brightest indirect spot in your house or space and give it to your Polka dot.
A North or South facing window is a safe bet. However, about 30cm away to make sure the leaves does not get scorched. If you only have West or East facing windows.. place your Polka dot at least 1 meter away.
Low light will cause the stems to grow weak and look droopy.
We can recommend that you support your stems with a "stokkie" or a rod of some sort. They grow tall and can do with some help from its mom or dad.
Although most Begonias including the Maculata requires high humidity of between 50-80%... misting the leaves must be your very last option as they do not like actual drops sitting on their leaves. This is a very high level to maintain and can be difficult to keep up especially in dryer regions. Luckily there are some easy ways to give your plant that extra moisture it needs to be happy. A drip tray with pebbles and water under the pot (water should not touch roots in any way) can work well. Placing the plant in your bathroom where it can absorb the humidity from your shower or bath at least once a day will be sufficient. Or if you have a humidifier... Thats obviously no-brainer!
Watering your Begonia Maculata
Do not let the soil dry out completely. Do not keep the soil wet constantly .
Use the famous finger test. Stick your finger in the soil. Only water once the top 2cm of soil has dried out. If this is the case, water thoroughly.
Note: Keep out of reach of children and and pets. Toxic
